After temporarily allowing it during the pandemic, the Swedish government is considering allowing limited companies and financial associations, including housing associations and cooperative tenancy associations, to hold general meetings digitally from the 1st of January 2024.
As the temporary legislation, passed in an effort to reduce infection rates, expired at the end of 2022, businesses have been pushing for this to become a permanent change, seen by many as an important step towards modernisation. The decision on whether meetings will be held physically or digitally will lie with the boards of the companies in question should this legislation be approved by the Swedish parliament.
