A new way to access government services as Smart-ID achieves LoA High

Belgian citizens looking to access government services now have another way to identify themselves.

Users can now securely register with the Smart-ID app using their Belgian eID to confirm their identity on portals like MyMinfin, MyPension and other government applications.

We here at Scrive have been working with SK ID Solutions, the creators of Smart-ID, for a number of years now and we’re excited to stand alongside them during this huge milestone. The Smart-ID app is now a core component of the Federal Authentication Service (FAS), granting citizens access to dozens of secured e-government applications.

Part of our mission has always been to meet our customers where they are, enable them to simplify and streamline their business processes without ever sacrificing security or compliance. A big part of this has been our ongoing commitment to secure ID verification and Smart-ID is one of dozens of ways we help achieve this.

In case you are unsure of what the eIDAS Levels of Assurance (or LoA) are, the three levels are as follows:

Low:
E.g. enrolment is performed by self-registration in a web-page, without any identity verification.

Substantial:
E.g. enrolment is performed by providing and verifying identity information and authentication by using a user name and a password and a one-time password sent to your mobile phone.

High:
E.g. enrolment is performed by registering in person in an office with physical ID and/or authentication by using a smartcard, like a national ID card.
