EverReal and Scrive close the legal gap in digital rental contracts

By integrating Scrive’s qualified electronic signature (QES) into its contract workflow, EverReal enables property managers to digitally sign rental agreements that require written form, without falling back to paper.

Digitalising the rental process can make it easier to create, manage and sign contracts, but some agreements still require a higher level of legal validity than a standard electronic signature can provide. With its integration of Scrive eSign, German PropTech company EverReal is closing that gap.

EverReal’s contract platform already enables property managers to handle the standard rental agreement digitally. Now, through its integration with Scrive, contracts that require written form under German law can also be signed digitally using a qualified electronic signature (QES).

With QES, the signature has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature under EU law, helping property managers maintain a compliant digital process from contract creation through to signing.

“Our process used to break exactly where it got legally demanding: contracts that require written form. With Scrive we close that gap, legally binding and without falling back to paper.”
Max Lion Düwel, Integration & Partnerships Manager at EverReal

From digital contract to digital signature

For property managers, the distinction between different types of electronic signatures can have important consequences. While an advanced electronic signature is sufficient for many rental agreements, certain contracts require a qualified electronic signature to satisfy the written-form requirement. QES also assumes legal validity, meaning that in case of challenge, the burden of proof is reversed.

Without a suitable digital option, this can mean printing and signing documents on paper, creating additional administration and interrupting an otherwise digital workflow. It can also expose property managers to compliance risks if a contract is signed using an insufficient signature level.

Through the Scrive integration, QES is available directly within EverReal’s contract flow. Signers can complete the identification process in their browser using an ID document and smartphone, without needing an additional app or a video call with an agent. The result is a single digital path for rental contracts, including those where the law requires the highest level of electronic signature.

Built for the realities of modern property management

Property managers are under increasing pressure to do more with fewer resources while maintaining compliance across large portfolios. Removing unnecessary paper-based steps can help teams save time and keep contracts moving, without compromising their legal requirements.

The integration is already live and being used by joint EverReal and Scrive customers.

“We strive to make contract execution as effortless as possible for everyone involved. Integrating QES into EverReal eliminates painful media breaks, allowing property managers to offer an exceptional customer experience,” says Erhard Wiese, VP Germany at Scrive. “Together, we’re making it possible to keep the entire rental contract journey digital, even when the legal requirements become more demanding.”
