New EU withdrawal-function rules are coming in June 2026

Digitalisation, Legal

Is your business ready?

From 19 June 2026, businesses selling products or services online to EU consumers must comply with updated EU Consumer Rights rules introducing what many are calling the “withdrawal button”.

The new requirements, introduced through Directive (EU) 2023/2673, are built around the simple principle that cancelling must be as easy as buying.

In practice, businesses must provide a clear and accessible digital withdrawal function directly through their website or app, without forcing customers through unnecessary friction such as phone calls, hidden settings, or complicated manual processes.

What businesses need to prepare for

The regulation applies to online purchases and subscription-based services where EU withdrawal rights apply. Companies must provide a withdrawal process that is:

  • Easy to find and complete
  • Available digitally throughout the withdrawal period
  • Integrated into the customer journey
  • Supported by clear confirmation and documentation

For many organisations, the challenge is less about understanding the regulation and more about implementing compliant workflows quickly across channels, systems, and markets.

Turning compliance into a better customer journey

Rather than building fragmented cancellation processes internally, many organisations are using this as an opportunity to modernise customer workflows more broadly.

With Scrive Forms Builder, businesses can quickly create secure digital withdrawal and cancellation flows using a flexible drag-and-drop interface. Forms can be embedded directly into websites, customer portals, mobile apps, onboarding flows, and emails – creating a consistent experience within the same trusted environment already used for signing agreements and customer communication.

Beyond compliance, Forms Builder also helps automate operational workflows by enabling organisations to:

  • Securely collect customer information
  • Trigger API callbacks into CRM or billing systems
  • Automate routing and documentation
  • Improve auditability and reduce manual handling

As Rasmus Nelson explains:

“Companies can quickly set up and implement compliant digital workflows instead of scrambling with fragmented solutions close to the deadline.”

With 19 June approaching, businesses that act now have an opportunity not only to reduce compliance risk, but also to improve operational efficiency and customer experience at the same time.

Get in touch with Scrive to explore how you can implement a compliant solution before the deadline.
