“Our research shows that home security customers are moving away from passwords toward eIDs for convenience and trust. At Scrive, we help businesses make that transition effortlessly, without compromising compliance or security.”

The clear preference: eID and biometrics

The survey showed an overwhelming preference for BankID and biometrics (fingerprint, facial recognition) over traditional email + password.

  • For existing customers logging into apps/web portals:
84% chose BankID and biometrics, compared to just 16% for email + password.
  • For existing customers during phone support:
66% preferred BankID and biometrics, while only 34% still wanted passwords/security phrases.
  • For non-customers imagining login if they had an alarm:
90% said they would prefer BankID and biometrics, with email + password trailing at 10%.
  • For non-customers imagining phone verification:
77% chose BankID and biometrics, compared to 23% for passwords/security phrases.

This highlights that the demand for fast, frictionless, and secure verification is not just a nice-to-have, it’s an expectation, both for retaining existing customers and attracting new ones.

Why this matters for home security and beyond

While our survey focused on home security, the findings apply across industries where trust, compliance, and customer experience intersect – from banking and insurance to healthcare and telecoms.

Consumers no longer want to rely on emails and passwords. They expect the same secure, intuitive login experience they already use with their bank.

“Simpler, more secure identification not only boosts customer satisfaction but also drives business growth. eID and biometric solutions are fast becoming the future of authentication, and companies that move beyond outdated email-and-password systems gain a clear advantage in both trust and loyalty.”

Closing the gap between expectation and experience

The survey results send a clear message: customers want seamless, secure verification, and they are ready to move on from outdated password-based systems. For alarm providers and other trust-driven industries, adopting eID and biometric solutions is no longer just an innovation, it’s a necessity.
